Garnett Woolsley Brown, the son of John and Mary (Goodrich) Brown, was born on December 9, 1888, in Canada. He spent the majority of his life in Schenectady. Garnett worked in the Schenectady Illuminating Company's accounting department. He was a member of the New Hope Lodge No. 730 and a member of the State Street Presbyterian Church.
On October 5, 1917, Garnett enlisted in the United States Army. He was a Private in the Headquarters Company of the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. Garnett was killed in an explosion in France on May 2, 1918. He is buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial, France.
