James Costanzo was born in Rome, Italy, on May 15, 1890. He was living in the city of Schenectady when he entered the military.
On July 2, 1917, James enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private serving with Company E, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. On May 17, 1918, he was sent overseas aboard the U.S. Army troopship USS President Grant. He was declared missing in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive on October 19, 1918. He is remembered at the Somme American Cemetery and Memorial in France.
