John Frank Urys, the son of John and Agnes Urys, was born on November 8, 1898, in Schenectady, New York. On April 19, 1917, he enlisted in the United States Army. On May 10, 1918, John was shipped overseas on the Dante Alighieri. He was a Private in Company A of the 39th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. On October 11, 1918, John was killed in France by an enemy shell immediately after delivering an essential letter to the front lines. He is buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery.
