Robert E. Butch, the son of Bernard and Catherine (Mathews) Butch, was born on July 8, 1924, in Schenectady, New York. He received his diploma from St. Joseph's Academy. Robert entered the military while a junior at Siena College.
Robert enlisted in the United States Army in May 1943 and attended Fort Benning, Georgia for his basic training. He held the rank of Private and served with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. Robert was killed in action on January 10, 1945, during the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried in the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial, Luxembourg.
