World War II (1939-1945)

Carmen Civitello was born in Rotterdam, New York, on September 2, 1922. He grew up in the town of Rotterdam in Schenectady County, New York, and graduated from Draper High School in 1940. Before entering the military, he was working for the American Locomotive Company in the city of Schenectady.

In April 1944, Carmen enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Camp Blanding in Florida. He was a private first class serving with the 405th Infantry Regiment, 102nd Infantry Division. On January 6, 1945, Carmen was killed in battle in Germany. He is buried in Sts. Cyril and Method Cemetery in Rotterdam, New York.
