World War II (1939-1945)

Charles Francis Clowe was born in Schenectady, New York, on March 8, 1920. He graduated from Nott Terrace High School and continued his education at Union College. Before entering the military, he worked for the American Locomotive Company.

On January 10, 1942, Charles enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. In Arcadia, Florida; Montgomery, Alabama; and Columbus, Ohio, he attended flight school. He was a captain serving with the 32nd Bomber Squadron, 301st Bomber Group, Heavy. Charles went missing in the Mediterranean sea on October 30, 1943, while on a mission to Turin, Italy. He is remembered at the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial, Italy.
