Oreste Leroy "Orie" Coppola was born in Schenectady, New York, on May 26, 1925. After graduation from Nott Terrace High School, he was employed by General Electric.
In September 1943, Oreste enlisted in the United States Army and attended Camp Wheeler in Georgia for his basic training. He held the rank of Private and served with Company A, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. When Oreste was deployed in March 1944, he first spent a few weeks serving in Italy before being moved to the French campaign. Oreste died in combat on August 21, 1944, in France. He is buried at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
