World War II (1939-1945)

Nick Corbo was born in Scotia, New York, on October 19, 1919. He grew up in the village of Scotia in Schenectady County and graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School in 1938, where he was the top football and basketball player.

In April 1942, Nick enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a staff sergeant serving with the 483rd Bombardment Squadron, 505th Bomb Group. While flying in their B-29, "Slick's Chicks," Nick and his crew collided with another B-29, "Deaner Boy," in mid-air above Japan on February 10, 1945. "Deaner Boy" lost eleven men, while "Slick's Chicks" lost twelve. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
