John Joseph Laban was born in Schenectady, New York, on April 28, 1922. After graduating from Nott Terrace High School, he worked for General Electric.

On October 13, 1942, John enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Corporal and served with Company C, 274th Infantry Regiment, 70th Infantry Division. On February 21, 1945, John was killed in combat in France. He is buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, New York.
