Ralph Robert McDowell, the son of Bertram and Marion (Dedrick) McDowell, was born on July 14, 1915, in Beacon, New York. He had spent the majority of his life in Schenectady. He attended Nott Terrace High School and worked for the General Electric Company before joining the military.
Ralph enlisted in the United States Army on December 30, 1943, and attended basic training at Camp Blanding in Florida. He was a Private First Class in Company F, 331st Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division. Ralph was killed on January 10, 1945, during the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery and Memorial Park, Colonie, New York.
