John B. Nolan was born in Troy, New York, on November 11, 1904. He grew up in the city of Troy and attended School 5 and Troy High School. After his parents died in 1940, he moved to the city of Schenectady and worked for the Drexel Furniture Company.
On June 10, 1942, John enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. On July 21, 1943, while stationed at an airbase in Orlando, Florida, he was participating in a blackout exercise and was sitting in a bomber when a MP shot and killed him. The MP was discharged dishonorably and sentenced to ten years of hard labor. John is buried at St. Peter's Cemetery in Troy, New York.
