Charles Gretten Norton, the son of Charles and Mae (Gretten) Norton, was born on March 4, 1924, in Schenectady, New York. After graduating from Mont Pleasant High School in 1942, he started working for General Electric.

On February 13, 1943, Charles enlisted in the United States Army. He underwent training at Camp Upton in New York, Camp Hale in Colorado, and Camp Swift in Texas. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Company H, 86th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division. On January 19, 1945, Charles went missing in action in Italy. He is remembered at the Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie, New York.
