World War II (1939-1945)

Charles Albert Schaeffer was born in Schenectady, New York, on January 30, 1920.

On January 16, 1942, Charles enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a staff sergeant serving with the 760th Bomber Squadron, 460th Bomber Group. On February 19, 1944, Charles was serving as the aerial gunner on a B-24H Liberator during a training flight. The Liberator crashed in Italy due to severe weather while returning to Spinazzola Airfield. Ten crew members and four passengers died. He is buried in the Sloansville Valley Cemetery in Schoharie, New York.
