Daniel Francis Splann was born in Frankfort, New York, on November 18, 1925. By 1940, he was living in the city of Schenectady on Fourth Avenue with his mother and siblings. Before entering the military, he graduated from Mont Pleasant High School.
In November 1942, Daniel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed his basic training at Parris Island in South Carolina. He was a private first class serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 22nd Marine Regiment. On February 19, 1944, Daniel was wounded while serving in the Marshall Islands; he died on February 21, 1944, as a result of his wounds. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, New York.
