Edward William Vadney was born on August 20, 1906 in Schenectady, New York. He attended local schools. Before enlisting in the military, he worked for General Electric.

On November 5, 1942, Edward enlisted in the United States Army and began his basic training at Camp Atterbury in Indiana. He held the rank of Private and served with the 31st Signal Construction Battalion. Edward was on board the HMT Rohna on November 27, 1943, when a German Luftwaffe Heinkel 177 attacked it. The Rohna was hit by a glide bomb and sank. On that day 1,138 men lost their lives. He is remembered at the North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial Tunisia.
