Nelson Edward Fournier was born in Schenectady, New York, on June 14, 1948. He grew up in the city of Schenectady on Cutler Street and was a student at Mont Pleasant High School. Before entering the military, he worked for the Associated Service, Inc.
On August 20, 1967, Nelson enlisted in the United States Army. He was a specialist fourth class serving with the 240th Aviation Company, 1st Aviation Brigade, and a member of the Bear Cat helicopter operations in South Vietnam. On May 2, 1968, Nelson was killed in action while fighting in the South Vietnamese province of Bien Hoa. He is buried in Vale Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
