Nelson Edward Fournier, son of Francis and Gloria (Rosecrans) Fournier, was born on June 14, 1948, in Schenectady, New York. Nelson worked at Associated Service Inc. and went to Mont Pleasant High School.

On August 20, 1967, Nelson enlisted in the United States Army. He was a member of the Bear Cat helicopter operations in South Vietnam and held the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He served with the 240th Aviation Company, 1st Aviation Brigade. On May 2, 1968, Nelson was killed in action while fighting in the South Vietnamese province of Bien Hoa. He is buried in Vale Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
