Raymond Lee Hyson, the son of Lester and Mina (Robare) Hyson, was born on August 28, 1946, in Charlton, New York. When he was young, his family relocated to Schenectady, and in 1965, he graduated from Mont Pleasant High School.
On June 8, 1965, Raymond enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He held the rank of Lance Corporal and served with HS Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On July 4, 1967, Raymond received fatal fragmentation wounds while defending a battalion position near the South Vietnamese province of Quang Nam from enemy attack. He is buried in Vale Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
