David Leonard Skumurski was born on February 13, 1947, in Schenectady, New York. He grew up in the City of Schenectady and graduated from Linton High School in 1965. Before entering the military, he attended Parsons College in Iowa.
In January 1967, David enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Dix in New Jersey. He was a private first class serving with Company A, 4th Battalion, 11th Light Infantry Brigade, 3rd Infantry Regiment. On April 3, 1968, in the South Vietnamese province of Quang Ngai, David died from wounds caused by metal fragments. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, New York.
