Edward James McCullough was born in the town of Moria in Franklin County, New York, on January 16, 1923. He graduated from Moria High School in 1941, and after graduation he relocated to the city of Schenectady and started working for General Electric.
In February 1944, Edward enlisted in the United States Army. He underwent his training at Camp Upton in New York and Camp Blanding in Florida. He was a private first class serving with Company C, 9th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division. Edward was sent overseas on January 4, 1945, and was serving with General Patton's Third Army when he was injured on March 26, 1945, in Germany. On May 15, 1945, he died from his wounds in a hospital in France; he had been wounded in the back and abdomen. Edward is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, in Brushton, New York.
