World War II (1939-1945)

Robert D. France was born in Scriba, Oswego, New York, on January 18, 1925. He was living in the city of Schenectady after 1940 and worked for the T.C. Company. He relocated to Syracuse and worked for a General Electric plant before entering the military.

On March 18, 1943, Robert enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Camp Wolters in Texas. He was a staff sergeant serving with the 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. Robert served in North Africa and Italy before being killed in combat on October 8, 1944, in France.  He is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Oswego, New York.
