Joseph Terry Rushing, the son of James and Clara Rushing, was born on April 13, 1920, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was raised and educated in Alabama. Joseph lived in Schenectady after marrying his wife.
Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy in 1938, and after service in Panama, he joined the United States Navy Air Corps. He held the rank of Aviation Chief Radioman. Joseph was never found when his plane shredded and crashed over the Pacific Ocean on September 21, 1944, while on a torpedo mission. He is remembered at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Hawaii.
