World War II (1939-1945)

Adolf S. Kowalczyk was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on October 19, 1917. He moved with his family to Schenectady County and settled in the village of Scotia. He attended St. Joseph's Academy and graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School. Before entering the military, he was working for the State Department Highways.

Adolf enlisted in the United States Army and completed his training at Fort McClellan in Alabama and Fort Ord in California. He was a sergeant serving with Company E, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. He was a veteran of the Gilbert and Marshall Islands Campaign and was wounded during the Battle of Saipan on June 23, 1944. On April 21, 1945, Adolf was killed during the Battle of Okinawa. He is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
