Charles Washington Yetto, the son of Asa and Anna Yetto, was born on February 22, 1892, in Green Island, New York. In 1911, he graduated from Watervliet High School. Charles relocated to Schenectady with his mother and began working in the General Electric Company's shipment department. Before joining the military, he worked as a timekeeper and was a member of the Ghost Club. Before entering World War I, Charles served in the United States' Mexican Punitive Campaign.

On July 1, 1916, Charles enlisted in the United States Army. On May 17, 1918, he was deployed overseas aboard the USS President Grant. He was a Corporal in the 105th Infantry Regiment of the 27th Infantry Division. Charles died of influenza on November 8, 1918, after being severely injured while participating in the Hindenburg Line break. He is buried in the New Mount Ida Cemetery, Troy, New York.
