Edward Kryscinski was born in Schenectady, New York in 1922.

Edward enlisted in the United States Army and held the rank of Private. When he was captured as a prisoner of war in the Philippines in 1942, he was serving with the Coast Artillery Corps. Edward was imprisoned in PW Camp #10 until his transfer in October 1944. On October 24, 1944, while attempting to escape the sinking POW transport ship Arisan Maru, Edward was shot. The ship carried 1782 US prisoners of war; 1777 were lost at sea. Edward is remembered at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Philippines.
