Frank D. Dumary Jr., the son of Frank and Alfretta (Van Loan) Dumary, was born on September 20, 1921, in Athens, New York. He was a graduate of Athens High School. Frank was living in Schenectady after 1940 and was a machinist for the American Locomotive Company.
On October 23, 1942, Frank enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He received his basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina. Frank was a Master Sergeant who served as a bombardier navigator. On February 12, 1945, Frank went missing in action near the Bonin Islands, Japan. Frank's headstone and some military records state that he went missing on February 12, but others indicate February 13. He is remembered at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Hawaii.
