Frederick T. Osbonlighter was born in Albany, New York, on June 16, 1915. By 1930, he had moved to the town of Altamont in Albany County, New York, and by 1940, he had moved to the city of Schenectady. He attended Altamont High School, participated in the Helderberg Bowling League, and, before entering the military, worked in the restaurant business with his father.
In October 1940, Frederick enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort McClellan in Alabama. He was a sergeant serving with Headquarters Detachment, 2nd Battalion, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. Frederick was transferred overseas in September 1941 and sustained injuries during the Battle of Saipan in July 1944. After recovering, he returned to combat but was killed on April 29, 1945, during the Battle of Okinawa. He is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Altamont, New York.
