Gale Kistler Millett was born in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, on February 27, 1915. He was living in Ravena, New York, by 1920, and in the village of Scotia in Schenectady County, by 1940. He earned his bachelor's degree in art at Defiance College in Ohio, taught for a year, and then began working for General Electric before entering the military.
In November 1943, Gale enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private serving with Company A, 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division. On July 6, 1944, Gale was killed in battle in Normandy, France. He is buried in the Chestnut Lawn Cemetery in New Baltimore, New York.
