World War I (1914-1918)

Gilbert Doolittle was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on October 18, 1884. By 1910, he and his wife were living in the city of Schenectady. He was a civil engineer with a degree from the University of Pennsylvania and worked for a construction company in Schenectady.

On May 8, 1917, Gilbert enlisted in the United States Army. He was a captain serving with Company B, 303rd Engineers, 78th Infantry Division. On September 25, 1918, Gilbert was killed while serving in France. He is buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial in France.
