Harold H. Turner was born in Rotterdam, New York, on November 22, 1918. He grew up in the town of Rotterdam in Schenectady County. Before joining the military, he attended Vocational High School and worked as a painter's assistant for his father.
On October 15, 1940, Harold enlisted in the United States Army. Before traveling overseas in March 1941, he underwent his training at Fort McClellan in Alabama, and was stationed at Fort Ord in California. He was a private first class with Company E, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. On July 8, 1944, Harold died as a result of wounds sustained during the Battle of Saipan. He is buried in the Fisher Cemetery in Rotterdam, New York.
