World War II (1939-1945)

Harold Joseph Premo was born in Chasm Falls, New York, on April 28, 1921. He lived with his family in Malone, New York, until 1940, when he relocated to Westville, New York. By 1942, he was living in Amsterdam, New York. Before entering the military, he was a blacksmith for the American Locomotive Company in Schenectady, New York. 

In April 1943, Harold enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private first class serving with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne. Harold was shot while parachuting behind enemy lines on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France.

*Harold is recognized on Schenectady County's Finest for his work in the county, but he truly deserves to be celebrated as Amsterdam's finest.
