World War II (1939-1945)

Ivor John Siler Jr. was born in Scotia, New York, on March 28, 1922. He grew up in the village of Scotia in Schenectady County. After graduating from Scotia-Glenville High School, he attended the University of Missouri. 

In May 1941, Ivor enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a second lieutenant serving with the 569th Bombardment Squadron, 390th Bombardment Group, Heavy. On December 31, 1944, while on a mission over Hamburg, Germany, the B-17G Flying Fortress he was on board caught fire and exploded, killing five crew members. Ivor is buried in Park Cemetery in Scotia, New York.
