On April 16, 1916, James Vincent Calvacca was born in New Jersey. By 1930, he had moved to Schenectady. Prior to joining the military, he worked for the Railway Express Agency and the Mohawk Chevrolet Corporation. He graduated from Draper High School.
James enlisted in the US Army Air Corps, where he served as a First Lieutenant with the 402nd Fighter Squadron, 370th Fighter Group. On December 18, 1945, James went missing in action in battle over Germany. He is remembered at the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial, Belgium.
