James Vincent Senese, the son of Frank and Maria (Naviano) Senese, was born on April 7, 1915, in Schenectady, New York. He participated in the band, orchestra, and football team while attending Mont Pleasant High School, where he graduated in January 1934. At Louisiana State University, James received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. He worked for General Electric.

On January 27, 1941, James enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Corporal and was part of Company C, 106th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. James was killed on June 30, 1944, in the Battle of Saipan as a result of enemy machine gun fire. He is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.

James' gravestone says Private, although there is a promotion certificate from February 1942 stating that he was promoted to Corporal.
