John David Bascom, the son of John and Hilda (Bascom), was born on September 14, 1909, in Hartford, Connecticut. When he was young, he relocated to Schenectady. John was employed at the American Locomotive Company.
On January 18, 1943, John enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with the 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. After completing his training at Fort Swift, Texas, John was sent overseas in 1943. On June 20, 1944, John passed away from wounds sustained in battle while he was in Via Cassia, Italy. He is buried in the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial, Italy.
