World War II (1939-1945)

John David Bascom was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on September 14, 1909. He and his family relocated to Schenectady, New York, when he was a child. Before entering the military, John worked for the American Locomotive Company.

On January 18, 1943, John enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private first class serving with the 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. After completing his training at Fort Swift, Texas, John was sent overseas in 1943. On June 20, 1944, John died from wounds received in Via Cassia, Italy. He is buried in the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial, Italy.
