On August 17, 1917, John Joseph Hudecek was born in Schenectady, New York. He resided on Crane Street and worked as a carpenter. While the rest of his family relocated back to Czechoslovakia, John remained in Schenectady. 

In March 1941, John enlisted in the United States Army and had been stationed in England until 1943. He had a rank of Private First Class and was part of the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division. On July 9, 1944, John was killed in battle in France. He is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, France.
