John McBride Jr., the son of John and Anna McBride, was born on October 29, 1913, in Troy, New York.  He graduated from Troy High School, where he excelled as a quarterback. John attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before moving to Schenectady in 1935. Before joining the army, he worked as an executive in the advertising department at General Electric. 

In September 1943, John enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with the 357th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division. On January 12, 1945, John was killed during the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, New York.
