John Salvatore Aragona, the son of Joseph and Anna (Gitto) Aragona, was born on April 30, 1924, in Schenectady, New York. Before enlisting, he worked at the Morrette & Buono Gas Station and attended Nott Terrace High School.
On August 31, 1942, John enlisted in the United States Army and held the rank of Private. He was on board the USAT Dorchester when it was torpedoed on February 3, 1943, by the German submarine U-223 in the Atlantic Ocean, south of Greenland. He is remembered on the Tablets of the Missing at the East Coast Memorial, New York City.
