World War II (1939-1945)

John Spawn Giffin was born in Guilderland, New York, on December 22, 1918. By 1940, he was living in the city of Schenectady and working for General Electric in the office service division.

In October 1943, John enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a first lieutenant serving with the 68th Bomber Squadron, 44th Bomber Group. On February 5, 1944, John was killed in battle over France. He is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France.
