John William Kuder was born in Schenectady, New York, on May 3, 1920. He grew up in the city of Schenectady, was a student at Central Park Junior High School, graduated from Vocational High School, and then started working for General Electric.
On October 18, 1940, John enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort McClellan in Alabama. He was a technical sergeant serving with Company F, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. John was sent to Hawaii in March 1942 and stayed there until he was transferred to Saipan, where he was critically injured on July 6, 1944. After healing, he was sent to the Battle of Okinawa, where he was wounded again and died on April 26, 1945. He is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
