Joseph P. Nettleton, the son of Roy and Julia (Winkler) Nettleton, was born on November 25, 1915, in Rotterdam, New York. Joseph was a junior scout leader in the Boy Scouts and a member of Troop 32. He attended Draper High School. Prior to joining the military, he worked as a hospital attendant.
On May 5, 1941, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Sergeant and served with Company B, 56th Signal Battalion. Joseph died in combat on Omaha Beach in France on June 11, 1944. He is buried in Fisher Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
