Joseph Revelia was born in Lucignano, Italy, on July 26, 1900. As a young child, he immigrated to the United States with his parents. Throughout the years between the two wars, Joseph, who had also served in World War l, had worked for the East End Coal Company.
Two years before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Joseph reenlisted in the United States Army. He was a sergeant serving with the 31st Infantry Regiment. While stationed on the Philippine Islands, he was taken prisoner of war, and on June 26, 1942, he died from dysentery in the Cabanatuan prison camp. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, New York.
