Kenneth Leroy Philo was born in Schenectady, New York, on December 8, 1905. He grew up in the city of Schenectady on Baker Avenue and graduated from Schenectady High School in 1924. While working at the Schenectady Gazette, he learned to fly at the Schenectady Airport. He also worked for the Schenectady Union Star before moving to Troy, New York, and working for the Troy Record Newspaper.
In September of 1942, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. On May 9, 1943, when he took off on a regular night flight while in training at the Utica Airport, his plane crashed about a mile away, killing him. He is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Troy, New York.
