Kenneth R. Mattice, the son of John and Anna (Mons) Mattice, was born on October 26, 1915, in Schenectady, New York. He competed on the track and cross country teams while attending Mont Pleasant High School, where he earned his diploma in 1935.
On November 30, 1940, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Sergeant and served with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 17th Airborne Division. On November 6, 1944, Kenneth was killed in combat in Sospel, France. He is buried in Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie, New York.
On the same day that Kenneth was killed in battle, his eight-year-old hound dog "Sparkie" was accidentally killed while hunting with two other men.
