Lawrence Bartholomew Dunford, the son of William and Cornelia (Schmid) Dunford, was born on September 25, 1915, in New York City, New York. Following 1930, he was working on a farm while residing in Delanson, New York. 

On April 14, 1942, Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Sergeant and served with the 68th Tank Battalion, 6th Armored Division. On October 8, 1944, Lawrence was killed in battle close to Nancy, France. He is buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, France.
