Leon Gilbert Dibble Jr., the son of Leon and Harriet (Allendorph) Dibble, was born on November 11, 1920, in Schenectady, New York. He attended Nott Terrace High School and Syracuse University.

In June 1942, Leon enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He held the rank of First Lieutenant and was a pilot of a B-24 Liberator. On April 7, 1945, Leon lost his life on a special liberator mission over Norway. He is buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery and Memorial Park, Colonie, New York.
