About

World War I (1914-1918)

Marcel Oliver Fontaine was born in Cohoes, New York, on May 27, 1896. It's unclear why Marcel was living in the city of Schenectady at the time of his enlistment.

On July 18, 1917, Marcel enlisted in the United States Army. He was sent overseas on May 17, 1918, aboard the U.S. Army troopship USS President Grant. He was a private first class with Company E, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. Marcel was killed in battle on September 29, 1918, in Bony, France, at Guillemont Farm. Because it is unknown where he was buried, he is memorialized at the Somme American Cemetery and Memorial in France.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

For the Fallen
