Norbert G. Filburn was born in the village of Ilion in Herkimer County, New York, on October 28, 1925. By 1930, he was living in the town of Rotterdam in Schenectady County. He graduated from Draper High School in January 1944.
On March 11, 1944, Norbert enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private first class serving with the 355th Infantry Regiment, 89th Infantry Division. He was a member of General Patton's Third Army, and on a newsreel, Norbert could be seen standing on a tank. On May 4, 1945, in Germany, he was killed in action. He is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten, Netherlands.
