World War II (1939-1945)

Oreste Leroy "Orie" Coppola was born in Schenectady, New York, on May 26, 1925. He grew up on Van Vranken Avenue in the city of Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School. Before entering the military, he was employed by General Electric.

In September 1943, Oreste enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Camp Wheeler in Georgia. He was a private serving with Company A, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. Oreste first served in Italy for a few weeks before moving to the French campaign in March 1944. On August 21, 1944, he died in battle in France. He is buried at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
