Orlando Joseph Picozzi, the son of Gaetano and Carmela (Cioffi) Picozzi, was born on June 29, 1913, in Schenectady, New York. He went to Van Curler Junior High School and Nott Terrace High School. Prior to joining the army, Orlando worked for General Electric.
In April 1940, Orlando enlisted in the United States Army. He was deployed to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii after basic training and was present when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He was a Corporal in the Army Signal Corps and served with the 35th Infantry Regiment. Orlando was killed in an enemy bombing raid during the Solomon Islands Campaign on May 20, 1943. He is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
