Oscar R. Ritter, the son of Oscar and Rose (Schicketanz) Ritter, was born on March 6, 1921, in Schenectady, New York. He attended Mont Pleasant High School and went on to work for Webster Motor Sales and General Electric.
Oscar enlisted in the United States Army in October, 1942, and at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey, he completed his basic training. After his training, he was stationed in Virginia and Florida before being sent overseas. He held the rank of Technician Fifth Grade and served with the 74th Signal Corps. On September 9, 1943, just two and a half hours after his signal corps group landed at the Salerno beachhead, Oscar was killed. He is buried in Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie, New York.
